Preliminary -Magazine Cover

This is my original image which I used to create the magazine cover.  I used this image because they look very serious and real. It was pictured on a white wall so I can easily edit the background. When I used this image I cropped out the white light in the top left corner because it looked odd, and I didn't want it in the magazine cover.  The image on the left is the original and the image on the right is the cropped version I used on the cover.
Once I cropped the photo I added it into Photoshop. I edited the photo and made it more lighter. The bottom of the original image was very dark but on the new image I made it more light. This makes the image look better and more professional. I also added a shadow effect to the image to make Ben and Jay stand out. I then thought of a title and then added it into the photo. I named the title 'TMUSIC' I did this because it sounds new and it expresses that it is a pop music genre. Once I added the title I then added in the date, price and issue number in black writing underneath the green title. I wrote it in back so it would stand out on the white background and so that the green text was easy to see without being distracted by a bright flashy colour.

Once I added the title and sub-headings I added in a barcode which I copied from Google Images. I simply dragged the image from Google and placed it in the bottom right corner of the front cover. I then started adding in the mast headings but i only wrote half in because I hadn't thought of a name for the band on the cover.

I had then thought of a name for the band. I called them 'BENJAY' I did this because their names are Ben and Jay, and also because I couldn't think of another name for the band. I think that it looks catch and sounds realistic. Once I thought of the name I added in the words. I also added another mast head saying "Were better than Coldplay".

Then once I added everything I double checked everything and made it look right. I positioned everything in the right place and sure it looks realistic. This is my final screenshot of my magazine cover.

The text is rather small and black so its looks professional. Most of the text is placed on the left side of the page and there is a large picture placed on the right side of the page. There is a lot of text on the page but it is organised neatly so it looks professional. The use of numerical figures is mainly wrote on the left side of the page with all of the text, but some on the figures are around the page, such as the number 3 in the bottom right corner.

Deconstruction of a magazine front cover

The font and text used on this magazine front cover is the same but used in different colours and different sizes. This is because the main things that will grab the readers attention need to be most viable to the readers eye. The big yellow writing "COLDPLAY" in the middle of the page really grabs your eye. Also different elements to the cover such as the name of the magazine "Q" is in white placed on a red square background which makes it stand out so you can clearly see what the magazine is called. The different colours make it easy to see whats the most important and recent news in the magazine. This appeals to the target audience because they can clearly see what group or solo artist the magazine is issuing this week and wether it will apeal to them or not. Q magazine is generally based for teenagers and young adults into pop music.

The colour of the magazine is mainly white but there is yellow and black in it. The white is very plain which is unusall. There is lots of red and yellow on the page which grabs the readers attention.
The body langauge/staging of Coldplay is that they are standing upright looking very serious. They are staring into your eye which makes you intrested and that you want to read more. It grabs your attention to make and makes you feel you should know whats going on in their world.

The framing of the cover is that there is a big band of writing at the top of the cover. This is white writing with a red background. This grabs your attention and makes you feel like you are missing out if you don't this magazine. The words in the middle of the image are big and bold so they can be seen clearly over the top of the image.

The lighting of thecover is set out in a effective way. The faces of the band are light and clearly visable to the eye. Towards the bottom of the image is blacks out making it less easy to see.

The overall composition/desgin is that the main image is placed over the name of the magazine and the text is placed over the image of the band. The issue number and price is in the top corner and the barcode isplaced in the bottom right corner.

Jarvis Cocker Analyzed

I have changed the original  image and made into a magazine cover. I added a title, issue number and price. I also added who was in the magazine. I added a yellow glow behind Jarvis to make him stand out from the purple background. I used NME magazine to get my idea's from as I analiyzed this cover and used it for a template for mine. I the cover I had chosen is a well know magazine which has produced magazines for lots of different celebs. I created a magazine name for the cover and added it on. I then added some subheadings such as things the magazine would cover, for example what page the interview with Jarvis is on. This made it look more realistic. I added a barcode in the bottom right corner because all magazines have barcodes and I wanted to make it look as best as I could.

This is my magazine cover.
